Kay Angel, Kids

Happy faces with the “new” sandals

The Heart Change Project recently held a fundraiser for the kids of Kay Angel.
With the money raised Larissa and Kate from The Heart Change Project decided to buy new sandals for our kids from Rebuild Globally in Port au Prince. This way both projects, Kay Angel and Rebuild Globally received their support.
Rebuild globally Port au Prince first development project in Haiti is working to employ locals to collect waste tires from the streets
and turn them into handmade recycled tire REBUILDER Sandals. Sandals are for sale in the international market and also donated to local orphanages.
Employees are trained in skills such as sewing, shoe making, and art.
Our sandals have been ready for us to come and pick them up in their store in Port au Prince.
Today I finally had the chance to go and pick them up, since we spend the whole day in Port au Prince for a check up for Estania with the heart specialist.
Estania has an enlarged heart due to her HIV+ condition which causes her quite some problems.
Ever since she has been living with us she has been treated by a heart specialist and put on special heart medication.
The good news for Estania is that after 4 years of heart medication her heart is starting to take on a more normal shape.
Her heart beat and breathing are more regular as well.

Estania, Melinda and Youseline unpacked the sandals

All of our kids are super happy with this original present from The Heart Change Project
The fact that all sandals are made out of old tires, but look totally new makes it all the more exciting for them, they keep running around saying “Karotchou pam poko en pan”, or “I don’t have a flat tire yet!”

Soooo cute!

HELP CHILDREN IN HAITI

Meet Yakime

YakimeSylvaince’s grandmother came to us and asked if we could care for Sylvaince as she was to old to properly care for him. About a month later His older brother Yakime joined him. At the time of the boys arrival their grandmother told us that the boys mother had passed away and that their father had never been around. Later we found out that their mother was still alive and living outside the country. Read more about Yakime →
